| At the time of our last Report on the wireless LAN (WLAN) market, standardization was at best embryonic, and multivendor interoperability virtually unheard of. Traditional vertical markets such as health care and logistics were the primary markets for earlier WLAN products. Today, key developments in the WLAN market are creating new business opportunities in less traditional vertical sectors as well as previously untargeted segments of the market. In fact, almost a third of the participants in the Yankee Group Corporate Wireless Data Survey have expressed an interest in deploying WLANs. Key pieces of the WLAN value chain are finally beginning to fall into place; however, perceptions about price and security, among other issues, continue to pose barriers to adoption. This Report presents an update on the state of the WLAN market, identifying the key drivers and standards issues of the present and future WLAN market. Furthermore, key product offerings and strategic objectives of several WLAN vendors are highlighted in the Vendor Profiles section. (Note: All monetary figures in this Report are in U.S. dollars.) |
